We’re now well into our 25th anniversary year, singing Carl Orff Carmina Burana, which will be the highlight of the year at our Summer Concert on 28 June, with the choir of Harleston Sancroft Academy. It’s never too late to join us, we’re a friendly community choir, we welcome everybody (especially potential Tenors), whether or not they’ve sung in a choir before, and there are no auditions. We meet for practices on Monday evenings from 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm, in The London Road Church, Harleston IP20 9BH. Free parking is available in The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) car park almost opposite. We have lots of events to celebrate twenty-five years of wonderful music and we hope that you’ll enjoy them with us.

Harleston & District u3a would like to invite you to the second of our 2025 monthly talks – Fleeing the Red Terror – on 19 January at 2.00 pm, in St John’s Church, Harleston. Ron French, a Beccles u3a member, will be talking about the flight of a wealthy young family from the depredation of Lenin’s campaign of political repression and executions in Soviet Russia, carried out by the Bolsheviks.

All with our four soloists and the Harleston Chamber Orchestra. Harleston & District u3a’s monthly talk, on Wednesday 18 September and entitled Wingfield, Suffolk’s Forgotten Castle will be given by Elaine, Baroness Murphy of Aldgate, a British independent politician and a member of the House of Lords who has a special interest in mental health and ageing issues.  She will be telling the story of this major local landmark and the remarkable lives of the powerful families who lived there.

After our summer break, which included a lovely Summer Garden Party, and a ‘Choral Singing for All Workshop’, we’ll be returning for more singing on Monday 2 September, the start date of the Autumn Term, 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm, in The London Road Church, Harleston IP20 9BH.  Come and join us, especially if you’re a potential tenor.  We’ll be rehearsing Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai and other Christmas music in preparation for our Christmas Concert on 14 December in St John’s Church, Harleston.

The Memorial Hall will be open on Saturday 7th September from 10am to 3pm, to show case the new garden area. Representatives from other voluntary groups have also been invited to attend, so this will be a great opportunity to meet, chat and find out a little bit more about events and committees within the village and surrounding area.

This is a FREE event, refreshments will be available, provided by grant funding from South Norfolk Council.

Norfolk County Council proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (the “Order”) (STRO10904) affecting the B1134 Long Row from its junction with C350 Cherry Tree Road for 2600m eastwards(the ‘Road’) in the Parish of Tibenham to facilitate Norfolk County Council surface dressing preparatory works, the Road will be temporarily closed (except for pedestrian access) for the duration of the works/period the closure is necessary which is anticipated to be between 19:00 and 05:00 from 4^th to 8^th June 2024, but may continue to be closed/restricted until the 20th July 2024 where the closure is still required beyond the anticipated dates.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 20th to 21st May 2024 for the duration of the works expected to be about 2 days within the period.  

Alternative route is via: Stoney Lane, Colegate End, Colegate End Road, Tattlepot Road, Tivetshall Road,A140 Ipswich Road (Pulham Market, Tivetshall).
